Crenshaw Farmers’ Market | Q4 2024

This was a smaller community project through a few groups that work with each other. The “client” was the Crenshaw Farmers’ Market (CFM) and because it exists very close to where I grew up (and the ties I have with the partners that presented me the opportunity) this was a no brainer to help with. With the changes in the neighborhood happening, there is a bit of a food desert in the immediate surrounding area. As the “Market” looks to keep quality food in the area and expand its visibility to a younger generation I was excited to help CFM begin updating their branding, even to a small degree.

This led me to creating a large vinyl banner that hangs above the entrance of their space. The goal was to incorporate some of their color palette with shapes and copy that could be visible for people driving by. We worked through a variety of color combinations and shapes that said fresh food/produce. The challenge was to incorporate all of the necessary text, sponsor logos and more on the banner to share space with a few visual notes that felt fresh and cohesive. It needed to be subtle but bold, attention grabbing but not distracting.

The biggest challenge for this project was the internal goals of the client and the amount of partners they work with. CFM is an organization that is very traditionally run and is busy prioritizing the community they serve over prioritizing modern visuals. Their agency understands they need to update some things to connect with a younger demo. Along with the amount of sponsors, things are always changing and there are multiple levels for approvals, especially from government entities. With all of that said, I’ll be ready to continue working with this client out of my personal ties with the community, and I would love to help push them into the future!
